Just for the Girls Quilt

Here is my version of the dress form and I will be entering this into the Stampede Quilt show as well.

I am entering this beautiful quilt in our local quilt show, it is a tribute to all of the amazing women in my life that have mentored and loved me and helped me to be the woman I am today. My grandmother, who was always sewing and praying for her family, she instilled a sense of hard work and purpose into me, as I watched her make about 500 toys a year for the Lions club in South Africa.

My mom, who taught me to laugh and enjoy the beautiful things of life, The importance of hard work and the joy of looking at the small things, the fine details that are all around us. Mom and granny loved flowers and especially roses and so the flowers and roses are for them. My mom also loved ballerina’s so there is a ballerina in this dress form, from fabric that came from my grannies stash.

The love birds are for my mom and dad who were always deeply in love, right until the end of their lives.

The rest of the flowers represent my aunts, these women, Aunty Anne, Aunty Barbara, Aunty Bev and Aunty Cherie, showed me love, acceptance and the importance of sisterhood. Standing up for one another and loving each other daily.

The butterflies are for all of the women that came into my life when I moved to Canada who have influenced me in so many positive ways, my heart bursts with love for all of these amazing women who have given me the gift of themselves, their wisdom, their love and their friendship, I feel like I am the richest woman in the world.

Then the shoes at the bottom are for my girls, Melissa, Megan, Jessica and little Violet, I hope that they will see in me the great things that these other women have instilled in me and be inspired. That they will follow in the footsteps of the women before me and become even greater than all of us. May God direct your steps girls, your mama and granny loves you very much.
